What struck the editor of this article was that Vivo portrays Latinx identities as normal, in that what makes the main character unique is not actually her racial or ethnic background but instead her bold, quirky personality. The story itself follows a kinkajou monkey or Latin American "honey bear" named Vivo on his quest to complete the dying wish of his first human friend, Andrés, a musician. The musical features vibrant cuban music, and the characters' journey takes them across Havana, Key West, the Everglades and Miami. Watch the trailer here and find the full film on Netflix.

Vivo is an especially good film for kids because it subtly shows them that there isn't anything "different" about having family members who speak Spanish or hail from Latin America.

In a recent study conducted by the Urban Institute, 70% of homeownership growth from 2020-2040 is expected to come from Latinos, making the community the growth engine of America's residential real estate market. 💪🏾. Nearly one in three Latinos is in peak home-buying years (25-44 yrs old), according to U.S. Census Bureau data. Lastly, markets with the highest rate of Latino home ownership include Boise, Idaho, and Durham, North Carolina!

IDENTITY:

The use of the term "Latinx" has been a divisive issue for some time -- and a new poll shows that it's the least popular signifier among Hispanic and Latino people. What do YOU think?

The term "Latinx" was originally intended to be used for folks who fall outside the male/female gender binary, and may not want to identify as "Latino" or "Latina." Since 2016, the term has grown in popularity online, but it has also been criticized.

If you grew up in New York City, you've likely heard of, and probably bought, 'nutcrackers' - alcoholic drinks made with blended fruit juices and various types of liquors, and famously sold illegally on street corners, subway cars or beaches. Above, you can watch the trailer for"Nutcos" which tells the story of the many cartels trying to become the top sellers of the famous illegal drink in Washington Heights. When the FBI is sent in to stop them a new seller, Palomo Escobar (played by Dominican actor and producer Juan Bago), shows up and causes an all-out cartel war. 😂 Ok fine, the trailer is not for a real show but it's a hilarious spoof and you need to watch and share it!!! While you're at it, follow Juan Bago and his acting adventures on Instagram.
